Visit Germany: tourism information from abroad reviewed and curated

As with tourism information in German and by German authors, a lot of content is being created primarily for SEO purposes. There is always a trade-off between usefulness for humans and effectiveness for search engines. Here at urlaub99euro.de (Urlaub in Deutschland) are some sources with a relatively high proportion of usefulness, curated with German eyes and experience.

lonely planet - Germany Sights
Top four places are Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Dresden. Top sites are Pergamon Museum in Berlin, Schloss Gottorf, Aachen Cathedral, Herrenhäuser Gärten, Schloss Branitz, Volkspark Friedrichshain, Neues Museum in Berlin, Marienplatz in Munich. This is a rather odd prioritization of tourism attractions in Germany. - we consider only two in the list real highlights and top attractions.
Rick Steves - "Germany is blessed with some of Europe's most high-powered sights"
Selected places and regions are: Baden-Baden, Bavaria, Berlin, Black Forest, Cologne, Dresden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Mosel Valley, Neuschwanstein & Southern Bavaria, Nuremberg, Rhine Valley, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Trier, Würzburg. Great posts as always, Rick has visited all places he describes. Check out the travel community of his site for itinerary help, a great service.
Frommer's - Destination Germany
Frommer's, normally a great resource, sucks a itinery plans, at least compared with Rick Steves (their maps, for instance for "Germany in 2 weeks" are a good idea but there are technical issues). However, there are good reads on art and architecture. There Best Museums List is well curated, their Best Small Towns and Villages as well, with Quedlinburg (and not this ubiquitous Rothenburg at first position). We really follow this recommendation: visit Quedlinburg in the Harz Mountains, located near geographical center of Germany. Frommer's Best Castles List is a lousy selection with three of eight castles of Ludwig II which is terrible - and the great Zwinger at Dresden at the very end of this attractions list.
Rough Guides - Destination Germany
Their list of 24 things not to miss in Germany offers some good travel and activity inspiration. Their statement "The 2006 football World Cup was something of a turning point, both with regards to Germany’s image abroad and to its own self-image, rehabilitating the idea of German patriotism for the first time since the war." is, let's say, interesting, in retrospect.
